Careers In Yorkshire

The stunning county of Yorkshire, called by some, "God's Own County", is the largest of England's counties and one of the most diverse, and naturally beautiful. From the magnificent dinosaur coastline, with its white chalk cliffs, and home to myriads of Puffins and other marine birds, Yorkshire has a wealth of gorgeous scenery, and is deeply steeped in history and heritage. But it is also economically diverse, and through cities and towns the likes of Leeds, Bradford, York, Sheffield and Hull, it offers job seekers a wonderful place to live, and a challenging and rewarding place to work.

The early economy of Yorkshire was led by the woolen textile industry which helped to establish and grow the towns of Wakefield and Halifax. Coal and Steel also played an important role in the early economic structure of the county, with coal mines littered across "the Ridings" as they were called, and with Sheffield being a world famous centre of steel manufacture.

The steel industry has been severely depleted in later years, and Sheffield has reinvented itself as a retail centre with new developments such as the renowned Meadowhall shopping complex. This is the perfect place to look, for those job seekers who are hoping to start or further a career in retail, and there are several employment agencies that specialise in this particular employment sector including the nationally renowned Reed Recruitment and online retail job locaters Retail Choice.

The county of The White Rose of Yorkshire has a very active tourism industry with millions of tourists flocking here from all over the UK, from mainland Europe and from North America. Bronte country is an inspiration for many visitors, as are the heritage sites of Harewood House, Castle Howard, and York Minster, the largest and finest example of a Medieval Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe.

With a well developed infrastructure to support the tourist industry, job hunters who want to establish their careers on the hospitality employment sector here in Yorkshire, can turn to online recruitment sites such as Premiere People. To add to that, the City of York council advertise jobs in the York area on their website www.York.gov.uk for those looking for jobs in the area.

There are other online job sites that cover areas in Yorkshire such as Guisborough, where you will find the wonderful Guisborough Priory, said to be haunted by Monks, and Whitby - home of Gothic history and the famous Whitby Abbey.

The largest city of Yorkshire is that of Leeds, whose stunning growth in the past three decades has seen the city become one of the leading financial institutions in the UK. The city is a delightful place to both live and work, with a vibrant, cosmopolitan population, and nightlife of bustling activity with a superb range of clubs, pubs, restaurants and theatres to choose from.

This is a very fertile employment ground for job hunters seeking positions in the finance and legal professions, and recruitment specialists Sue Ross Legal, based on York Street in Sheffield, and Prime Time Recruitment are very active in this niche of the market. Prime Time have offices all over the country, including Huddersfield, Brighouse, Hull and Horsforth which are all in the Yorkshire region.

Yorkshire offers its inhabitants a wealth of natural beauty, an ethnically diverse living environment, and an economy that is already coming out of recession. It's an excellent place for job hunters to apply themselves to in their search to further their careers.
