Drop In Minimum Wage Could Cost Employers 50 Million![]() The drop in the age limit for the adult minimum wage will cost employers an additional £50m, it has been estimated by Thomsons Online Benefits. From October 1 2010, the adult rate for the national minimum wage will be applicable from 21 years of age, dropped from 22. It will affect 85,000 workers who will now benefit from the higher wage rate. The Government also recently announced that apprentices will be paid at an hourly rate of £2.50. Employees aged between 18 years and 20 years will now be entitled to a rate of £4.92 per hour, a rise from the older rate of £4.83. Workers who are aged less than 18 years will also see their national minimum wage rising from £3.57 to £3.64 per hour.
