British workers unhappy with pay

British workers unhappy with payA significant proportion of the British workforce feel the quantity of their pay packet is not adequately reflective of the labour they put in on a day-to-day basis.

A recent survey by Unum, a health insurance provider, revealed 65 per cent of staff believe they are underpaid, with the average British worker thinking themselves to be worse off by roughly £5,250 per annum.

"This research has revealed some astounding facts about how disgruntled the UK workforce is with their wages," said John Penman, head of retail marketing at Unum.

He added that wages were likely to be a more pressing concern for consumers during the current credit crunch.

The study also revealed that a million employees in the UK believe their earnings should be between £10,001 and £20,000 greater each year than they currently stand.

In related news, Human Resources magazine recently reported that figures from The Route City suggest "high flying" females are paid 37 per cent less on average than their male counterparts.
