Part One: Top CV Tips / Part Two: Great CV Advice / Part Three: How To Improve Your Job Application / Part Four: Advice For A Great CV / Part Five: Great CV's: A Tip / Part Six: Tips For A Top CV / Part Seven: CV's That Get Jobs / Part Eight: Improve Your CV / Part Nine: Tips For CV Improvement / Part Ten: CV Improvement Advice. Style A recruiter - be they a business employer or recruitment agency - will see many CV's so style is what will make yours stand out from the job hunting crowd and help get you that new career or into that place of work. This is tip two of ten on great CV structure. You might have the assumption that one CV is pretty much the same as another. It's basically a list of one's experience and achievements right? How diverse can they be? How diverse do they even need to be? Does your CV really matter anyway when it's what you say and how you present yourself at the job interview that really counts? The interview is definitely the process that secures you the job and gets you working for your new employer - or recruitment agency - but the CV in many ways is what gets you the interview so its importance cannot be overstated. It's paramount that your CV is in an easy to read font and in a reasonably sized typeface. Some people think the bigger the better (to some degree) because this has the appearance of enhancing your information. Let's face it an employer can't miss something if the typeface size is 16. That said they might choose to miss it because it could appear big and clumsy and not at all attractive. The same goes with too small. You might think the shorter your CV appears the better as there doesn't appear to be much to read but this also can be off putting. Take care to not mix up too many variables in terms of fonts - do not, for example, have bold and underline for headers, or lots of italics. The closer you are to standard business styles the better. You unique individualism can be demonstrated at interview. Get your CV right and get that interview. For the other steps visit our Recruitment Blog. The only agency so far to keep to their promises and actually work on selling me to the employer. The consultant I'm working with cannot do enough for me and keeps me up to date on progress. Thanks Johnstones! |
