I went through the time and effort to structure my CV and take time to complete a personal summary for a specific role, this agency didnt have the respect nor decency to return my email or communicate effectively with me. Frustrating when I have forgotten more then they know. Just the same as most other recruitment agencies, only interested in you if you are a commodity and the commission is at the end of the process. But, you heard all this before!!!!!

Like many agencies, only one person deals with the application. If that person is out of the office, nothing happens. For interview I was briefed the morning of the interview, despite asking the day before for some briefing. Totally inflexible, have to present passport before sight of even a draft contract!

Worked with Hays a few times and I am very happy with their services. They pay on time which of course is very important for a contractor and they also resolve any issues very quickly and efficiently

I only occasionally deal with agencies, preferring to find my own work, and my experience with Hays reinforced this approach. I performed 2 days' work for my client, who I had previously always had a very good relationship with. I was used to being called in at short notice to suggest solutions to problems, I worked directly and I had always been promptly paid. This was the first Hays were involved. I had to complete a raft of forms, out of proportion to the work I was doing. It was obvious I was dealing with an organisation who placed form filling and procedures above content and results. After satisfactorily completing the work, it took 6 months to be paid part of my invoice. It took a further 2 months to be paid my expenses. Even then they have only paid VAT at 15% because they paid the invoice after 1/12/08 (the work was actually done 8 months earlier!). I asked their consultant if it was just a case of inefficiency or if Hays were going out of business. He claimed it was just the former, although with this sort of performance, I expect Hays will be out of business very shortly.

On reflection I wish I had never taken this assignment and had approached the client direct. Hays did not advise me on any level regarding IR35 and I was clearly green at the point of signing,. At the renewal point after six months I tried to renegotiate my contract and got nailed to the wall with refusal to cooperate. I will not be taking an further assignments through them

Hays have an appalling manual pay system. They claim to not receive the timesheet and blame this on the post. I have been paid late on 4 occasions. 3 Colleagues on the same assignment have also each been paid late 3 times, each time Hays likes to blame the post office. That's 13 occasion when Hays have breached their contract. Not happy at all.

Request a lot of perm employee info such as passport, bills, next of kin etc. Tried to sneak in a free 5 days trial after contract offer made. Made quite a few calls after contract end under the guise of them doing an audit and needing references, past hiring managers
