I think that the answer to this question somewhat depends on your market niche. In sales recruitment I use the Web to advertise jobs exclusively. Printed media is still expensive and and the simple fact is that if you are looking for a job you go online and look at the jobsites rather than wait for the Sunday paper.

In an age where people want everthing NOW printed media advertising is relegated to the the passive market rather than those who are actively seeking a new role.

Seems to be a very popular channel for job seekers these days...

From what I understand, Gumtree can often yield fairly low-quality candidates. I guess it therefore depends on the level of the position you are trying to fill.
