•Build relationships with your people Agree, tick •Listen and really hear what's being said Pardon? •Listen much more than you tell Hmmmm, maybe I should but probably don’t do this enough •Be consistent with everyone I am, tick •Have no favorites My favourites are those who work the hardest, it upsets those who make less effort but I don’t mind that, why should I? •Have very clear expectations of people, well explained I try my best, I think I do this well most of the time 80% tick •Be trusted and confidential, where expected Always, tick •Coach, support, develop and grow your people Yes, as far as people have ambition to improve themselves •Treat your employees precisely how you would want to be treated yourself (double-check that's enough) I treat the staff as I would expect to be treated, not quite the same thing but close enough •Accept feedback yourself and give it too, positive and constructive, regularly will try harder •Accept that you make mistakes sometimes and share them with your people always, tick •Let people make mistakes themselves and help them learn from them always if with a little bit of exasperation, tick •Let them have fun and help them know when too far is too far what? hit them with a stick if they muck about on facebook? •Dig in and help at the sharp end when it matters I'm very good at this, tick •Treat your people as real people and understand that sometimes, just sometimes, their work isn't the most important thing on their mind it's a judgement call, tick •Be a model in all you do Lead by example, tick
