I am thinking of hosting a forum on my industry (not recruitment!) and general stuff and see that SMF is free. I have downloaded the zip folder but I cant seem to install it on my PC even though I have opened it OK.
Also on their website they say that this program has been targetted by malware. Has hirescores had any experience of this?

Once the zip is opened how do you install the SMF program?

Hi, The best thing to do is use the Support that is available via the simple machines website itself. http://support.simplemachines.org/YOU may also find a youtube video that shows you how to install it. Hope that helps Gary

I tried to register Jasper but the registration process said I was a spammer.
Which I'm not.
Maybe I got the letters thing wrong, I dunno.

I have been having a lot of trouble with spam. If your IP address or e mail address is logged with stop forum spam then you will not be able to register.
Please try again but delete your history and perhaps use crap cleaner as well. If you do this it will work. I just had the same e problem and needed to use a different e mail address.
I have just chnaged the registration spam MOD to a question one and we will see what happens.
(Perhaps the admin here should do the same! The spammer below this has made 42 spams!)
It would be great to get some more regulars on board.

Just been clearing up some spam this morning so hopefully better. As our forum becomes more popular the spam problem has increased alas. Thanks for alerting us to the issue this morning.

It has nothing to do with "being popular"
Another forum "newhomesforum" has 33,845 "members" yet has only 342 posts on 189 topics!

Yes, I set one up as an experiment (to learn how to do it) and although it only had 3 legit members I got loads of spam after 3 months. and yes, it is very easy to set up and quite time consuming to administer I imagine.

No you just need a question mod as well as the capcha code and then you only get "human" registering. You just then delete anyone who has a spam post or a link in their profile without posting.
It is a real pain and I don't know why they do it. It makes a real mess of the forum if you don't keep it under control. Once a week is enough now I have precautions.
I see the tramadol spammers are back again today!
I wish I could get the spellcheck to work!
