My experience of recruitment agencies over the last five months:
1) They never bother to contact you when they said they would. 2) They never chase up any CV's they send their clients, prefering to wait until the Client makes contact. 3) Once they have your CV the vacancy becomes "on hold" or is cancelled. 4) They have no scruples - all are happy to advertsie and chase up the same vacancy with the same employer. this results in multi CV applications of the smae candidate. 5) They frequently advertise for vacancies that diont exist. 6) They make multiple ads of thr same vacancy on job boards clogging them up and re submit each week as if it is a new vacancy. 7) They never ever give you ANY FEEDBACK on your applications - probably because they are never even sent!
IN SHORT THEY ARE ALL A WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT!
Anyone looking for a job would be bettre off writing direct to any employers themselves speculatively.

This I think is a very good idea, hard work but getting a cv out of the blue when you currently have a vacancy is (or would be) pretty impressive. It shows a proactive appraoch and possitive attitude. However, I think you've had a lot of bad luck with recruiters. If you look at the reviews on this site you'll see a few have very good reviews, most don't, but some do.

In Construction recruitment (my experiences) they have all been rubbish. Not one good experience. lets face it the people they employ in the agencies would probably work for any other agency discipline too so it stands to reason that most probably all are bad.
Some people may have been lucky and gone to an interview, hit it off, real job they wanted to do etc etc. That is about as rare as a Greek paying income tax though!

Normally I'd want to argue with you but recently, as hirers are cutting recruitment budgets, instead of competing on service recruiters are just playing a numbers game issuing cv's that aren't even vetted let alone interviews that haven't been preinterviewed. There was time when quality was better, around about the time of jumpers for goalposts I think. hopefully, things will pick up.

Please DO argue with me!
I have experience of large recruiters, even ten years ago, who "pre interviewed" me not doing anything or sending me to interviews for a job 100 miles away from my home even though I had told them I wouldn't travel more than 50 miles a day!
All agencies are SH*T - always have been always will be - end of!

Some but not all. You can't say "all" unless you've used all. Just sort of arguing as requested .

Its a bit like saying all cars pollute the atmosphere. Yes there are electric cars, but how is the electricity produced? Yes there are clean electricity producers, but how is the equipment made to produce the clean electricity?
At the end of the day recruitment agencies are ALL REPEAT ALL and in case you didn't get it I'll say it again ALL USELESS, RUBBISH, WASTE OF TIME, etc etc. Somewhere, if you dig deep enough, every agency is or has been unethical!
Tell me of all agencies that give regularly to charity for example? Not their staff, not "fundraising" but out of their own profits.
AND..............
Even if there is just one good agency in this world, why don't ANY OF THEM come on here and refute the many many many (and not just from me) allegations against them? Or is this forum not visited by any of them
There you go I challenge them all to come here and justify what they get up to.

Maybe you were unsuitable? Unthinkable as it probably seems

Some young bint with a degree in Geography and absolutely no idea that Reading is miles away from Worthing. And she knew nothing at all about what my job entails. So was she really the best person to pre interview?
NO. and yes I am rarely "unsuitable" I make money, win awards and add value wherever I work. Trouble is that I am much BETTER than those interviewing/hiring and they are scared of me!

I had five "line managers" in 40 months. The first one was promoted and the other four didn't know how to do their job (and were sacked one by one so I ended up doing their jobs too. The last one made my life a misery and had the "support" of the owner directors so it was time to go. I also I got fed up with the travelling, the lack of appreciation, the withdrawal of bonuses and pay rises
I won awards, increased profits and enhanced their reputation - all that effort counted for nothing in the end.
I am better than that and have never regretted my decision to leave, even though it is hard to find a reasonable job at the moment.

So you quit?
I commend you.
It takes a brave person to quit when management gets screwy with you most people sit it out and moan.

I do hate the term line managers and would NEVER want to be one.
You're just a middle man or woman who can't please anybody.

Who came up with line managers anyway? What do they manage a line of people? I don't get it.

Thank you brave? Not really, resigning was my only option. No way was I going to kill myself working for them and make them even richer. Sit it out and moan? Not me. After I bought my first house, even though the mortgage took 65% of my take home pay, I saved as much as I could. Within a year I had enough to live on for three months. All my life I have added to this "F*ck you" money. I have had enough to live on for the last 14 months and can last another FIVE YEARS! I dont take any sh*t from anyone! and dont have to either. At the end of the day no one can take my dignity away.
