Most (88%) of UK employees have had sleep related issues due to work related worries, according to a Monster poll.

The poll also found 53% of jobseekers suffered disturbed sleep, while 23% of workers got virtually no sleep at all.

Julian Acquari, managing director at Monster UK and Ireland, says: “It is worrying to see how many workers suffer disrupted sleep over work-related issues. Disturbed sleep can often cause teams to underperform. Workers may need to consider changing jobs to regain a healthy work-life balance.”

Worries always play on my mind at night whatever those worries may be.

I'm not surprised that many jobseekers suffer in this way because I've been there. When you're struggling to make ends meet it's obviously very worrying.

I sometimes think about work as I'm trying to fall asleep but isn't that just because it's such a big part of life?

I understand the difference to be worrying about it rather than thinking about it. Therein lies the problem.

A couple of jobs I've had in the past I pretty much constantly worried all the time I was away from the place. If my mobile rang I'd start to have palpitations that it was work asking me to cover a shift even when it wasn't. Clearly there were problems there which is why I got out  Smiley.
