I'd like to thank everyone for all the help in answering my questions about work and culture in the UK. Unfortunately, our house trade fell through so it looks as though at this time we will be staying in the US.  However, my interest has been piqued enough that we may look into other opportunities to come abroad.

Sorry to hear about your house falling through but don't give up just yet, there will be other opportunities in the future.

What a shame - but hopefully another opporutunity will come up in the future.  It is fun to be able to live in another country - rather than just visit it (although visiting can be fun as well!)

Thank you for the optimism. We've actually decided to actively pursue other opportunities to work abroad, we've really been interested in what we've learned about the culture of the UK. My wife (the educator) also thinks, and I suppose I agree, that it would be a wonderful opportunity for our children to be able to have the experience of living in, schooling in and meeting friends in a different country. So, we've not given up yet!
