Studies have shown that when people are unhappy, they are more likely to go shopping. Does this sound like you? Have you ever bought something when you were feeling down and depressed?

Oh yes, I have gone shopping many times when I was feeling sad. Usually I'll be a new outfit or some jewelry. I don't know why I do it. May be because it makes my feel pretty and more attractive.

I've noticed if I buy something new and wear it to work, I feel mor energetic and productive at work. Maybe it's a "new" me at work who wants to be noticed.

I practice "retail therapy" all the time. I do think it works though, wearing a new outfit makes me feel better about myself and how I look, so I'm more confident. I think as long as you don't go overboard there's no harm in it. I'd rather clothes shop when I'm sad than eat chocolate... it's better for my hips!

Sadly I'm a bit of both. Not clothes for me but CD's & DVD's are my obsession. Food? That's in there too unfortunately  . |

I try my best not to spend when I feel down, as I usually feel guilty about it afterwards!

I think assuming I have the money free I don't feel guilty about it. My guilt comes when I'm spending money on DVD's or CD's or whatever and that money really should have gone towards something else.

I think a good way to make sure you don't spend to much when out on a shopping trip, whether as a pick me up or just in general, is to set yourself a limit and then take that much money out of the bank and leave all cards at home. That's what I always do, then there's no way to spend more than you intend to!

True that's a good point. When I shop for DVD's or CD's it's probably a £20 limit anyway. That doesn't sound like much but depending on your circumstances of course it can be. I'm glad that "entertainment" goods have really come down in price lately. CD's probably because it's so easy to illegally download them and DVD's probably with the invention of Blu-Ray. There's a shop in Nottingham called FOPP that has many great deals on good CD's & DVD's from like £2. I'm not especially a fan of Robbie Williams (though I do like live albums and DVD's) but I picked up a nice double live DVD by him for £2 last week. You can hardly grumble at that.

I used to love FOPP when we had one here, but it went out of buisness so maybe they were a bit too cheap! I think HMV's becoming quite good at the moment especially for DVDs, I've found quite a few that I like for under £5 each.
