According to the "glass ceiling" metaphor, a person finds he is unable to advance in the company due to factors beyond their control.  Does anyone think there is a way to break through the "glass celing"?  It it possible to just keep proving yourself to the company to show them your qualified to advance?

I think that the "glass ceiling" occurs when you stay around too long at a company.  You can often be taken for granted, seeing new people join on more money than you.

While it is easier said than done, you only really reap the rewards of your hard work if you leave to join a competitor.  The old saying "familiarity breeds contempt" is very apt.
