Employers have a responsibility to make sure that their workers are being as energy efficient as possible at work, it has been claimed.

By setting a good example and running incentives they can encourage employees to take a more active role in being environmentally conscious, Morgan Lovell believes.

Some ways to do this are by replacing old light bulbs with energy saving ones, turning off computers at night or using live energy boards.

"This way the staff and all your visitors to the office will also see what action you are taking and the results you are getting," Lara Conaway, Morgan Lovellís sustainability manager, said.

She believes that a more active approach such as this is what is needed to engage employees.

According to a new report by the Sustainable Development Committee, the government is currently not on track to reach its targets for carbon dioxide output by 2010-2001.
