Why Do Some Employers Get Into Such A Recruitment Mess?

We all make mistakes, but it does perplex me that so many companies rollout new ways to recruit, or save money on recruitment costs, or "refine the process" and all other manner of phrases I hear.  Do these companies actually speak to their suppliers prior to doing this?

Often by the time I hear of a new idea a company has, it is too late to give my thoughts and advice to them.  This probably has a lot to do with the people involved in decision-making; in my opinion there is not enough consultancy between the employer and companies that are recruitment experts, to put an informed and unbiased plan in place.

Some of the ideas employers try or consider include:

  • Managed Services;
  • Online recruitment services;
  • PSLs or ASLs;
  • Advertising direct;
  • Retained recruitment;
  • In house recruiters;
  • RPOs.

I see and hear of poor decisions all the time, which invariably the employer realises sometime into the rollout or implementation, then amends or worse scraps the whole idea.  This is not lean?

Of course each employer, like each person has their own specific needs, which is why the right recruitment process needs to be bespoke, unique and most important of all, well thought out.
