![]() Top Tips For Increasing Recruitment EffectivenessDevelop relationships before you need them
Developing relationships which have the potential to aid recruitment before you need to find a candidate. This is about making contacts now that may be useful later should you be looking to either recruit or be recruited. Here you will find some great recruitment tips. This is the first in a series of 5 blogs which look at increasing recruitment effectiveness. Developing relationships before you need them is a core element of effective networking and a cornerstone of increased recruitment effectiveness. As a recruiter this is about building up a base of people who can help you with your recruitment and candidates who might one day wish to be recruited. To illustrate our first tip, we refer to the words of business guru Harvey MacKay, ‘Dig the well before you're thirsty'. Liaise with job agencies, recruitment consultants and university careers departments in order to build up a pool of possible candidates for a given job before you know that the position is even going to be open. Make sure you have sources prepared for good-quality candidates in a range of different skill areas and specialisms - it's called a talent pool and it's one of the cornerstones of recruitment best practice. Be prepared to court first-rate talent before any formal relationship is required - you're committed to nothing and neither is the prospective employee, but it makes it far easier to move - and far quicker - when you do find that you need a fill a position. The best strategy is to view building a talent pool as a mid term to long term investment since it is about building relationships which could lead to recruitment and not searching for candidates to fill an immediate vacancy. Also it is sometimes the people that they know rather than themselves who will ultimately be recruited and become your employee. Setting up Alumni of ex employees is therefore a very good strategy in this area - this gives you access to an even broader field of candidates. It also means that you will remain a career choice for an ex-employee when they are next considering a move. Willingness to accept leavers as joiners is a sign of a mature and successful talent and recruitment strategy.
