Tips For Successful Interviews

Keep it professional

Professionalism is paramount to getting you that new career and into the new place of work. Recruiters - from either a job agency or a full time employer - will always want to see this in any and every job candidate. This is our sixth of nine tips on job interview techniques.

Of course you won't be the first person interviewed by the recruiter or employer at your job interview and you won't be the last so to leave a lasting impression is crucial. You need to convey a professional approach every step of the way. As we've already seen being appropriately dressed, eye contact and even a firm solid handshake help but your personal views are important too. Many interviewers might ask your opinion on a certain subject but until they do try to keep them out of the equation. If you are asked to comment on a certain subject look at it from the perspective of a professional. As we looked at previously, swearing for example is a big negative which must never be done.

Clearly you do want to give the interviewer a feel for you as a person - this is an important part of checking out if this is a company you will do well in.  But it is important to remember that this is a formal process and the recruiter will expect you to behave professionally.  Thus tempering your enthusiasm can sometimes be a sound strategy.
