Starting An Executive Recruitment Consultancy

Starting An Executive Recruitment Consultancy

An interesting article in the online version of Entrepreneur Magazine about starting an executive search consultancy. It suggests an average income for independent consultants at just short of $200K per annum - around twice the average salary of their employed equivalent.

Obviously, there are risks involved in going out on your own but it certainly seems an attractive option for consultants with the right contacts and the right abilities.

More interestingly, it also prompts the question from an employer's point of view as to whether using a larger recruitment agency or an excellent freelancer is the better option. Brand name aside, even when using a larger firm, much of the work may still be performed by the same single person, who, if working freelance may be able to provide a more personal service - at a potentially lower cost.

Ultimately though, the success of an executive search firm may well come down to having the right contacts and a larger firm may be better placed to deliver that.

As always, it's not what you know, or even who you know - it's who knows you that counts.
