Do you think that primary interviews can be conducted adequately by recruitment agents, thus saving you time?
  • Provided the agent is competent (in terms of behavioural interview techniques) and clearly understands your organisation and job specification then the answer is yes, absolutely. Indeed this is one of the areas they can add value
"The experts" advise never to bring up package requirements in a first job interview. Would you agree with this statement?
  • Quite definitely - this is the advice I would always give someone. Ensure that you have been selected prior to starting to make demands or ask questions that may be incorrectly interpreted. This assumes that you have some idea of the broad compensation - it would be a waste of time on both sides if your expectations were twice what was on offer, for example.
What are your pet peeves in the interview room?
  • As an interviewer - when you ask someone to be brief and they ramble on - particularly when it is the first ice breaker question.
  • As a job candidate - if the interviewer keeps you waiting for over half an hour for the interview with no explanation
