Recruiting Online: How To Succeed

Ad space on commercial sites

In our fifth tip in our series of eight offering advice to recruiters for better and stronger online recruitment we look at recruitment advertising on commercial websites. This is quite an obvious option but at the same time nothing should be assumed or dismissed when seeking to recruit the best employees for your business or organisation.

This may be obvious but paying to have your job vacancies advertised on websites that reach large audiences is a fantastic idea. In doing this you'll be casting as wide a recruitment net as possible. Bear in mind when considering this option - and perhaps where to advertise - that not every website will be read by the demographic that has the experience and skills you'll want in your job candidates.

Best recruitment practice is to liaise with the company that owns the website you're considering advertising with to find out as much as you can about their audience. A company will be happy to do this, remember, you're a potential customer to them. Be as specific as possible when explaining the kind of audience you want to reach. Also the payment methods used by larger commercial sites make it a good idea to re-use your advertising space for other vacant jobs after the initial positions have been filled.

You should also consider creating a more general recruitment advert saying ‘we have vacancies in the following areas ...' This is particularly effective if you are opting for a banner advert and can be an effective way to draw traffic to your own website - thus increasing the effectiveness of your direct recruitment.

You can also use banner adverts to pull candidates to your own career portal.  This way you get people looking at all of your vacancies and also get them interested in your company.  If you do not have your own dedicated career portal you can set one up via agencies or indeed at HireScores.com we are always happy to help with advice on how to do this.
