Preparing Yourself For Interview

Preparing Yourself For Interview

Good preparation is important - not just so you can answer those tricky questions but also to help you feel more confident and relaxed. Here's a few preparation tips for that big interview:

1. Do your homework - If the recent series of the Apprentice (UK version) taught us anything (and it didn't) it's worthwhile knowing a few bits and pieces about your prospective employer before you land for the interview. Find out the types of businesses they're in, key clients, big awards, key staff (including the interviewers name if possible) and what the goals of the business are.

2. Lay everything out in advance - Make sure to lay out that freshly pressed suit the night before along with copies of your CV etc...

3. Make sure you know where you're going - Turning up late will not impress - make sure you know how to get where you're going and give yourself plenty of time to arrive.

4. Practice common questions - Interviews tend to follow certain formats and include certain questions. What are your aims? Why would you suit the post? Strengths? Weaknesses?

5. Prepare examples - Anyone can say they're a ‘team player', can you prove it?

6. Prepare questions - Good questions can help set you apart. "How many days holiday do I get?" is not a good question.

7. Don't prepare too much - Being well prepared can help settle your nerves but over preparing can be just as nerve wracking

8. Cover your short-comings - You know where your CV might be a bit thin, make sure you have answers for likely questions like ‘So what were you doing for those 6 years then?'
