Interview Success

Prepare

As a job candidate you'll want to have all the tools at your disposal when entering an interview with an employer, recruiter or job agency. Preparation may sound obvious but is a vital part of getting you the work or career you want. This is our fourth of nine interview tips.

You'll have given a little thought to answer you might give to obvious and common questions that probably will crop up at some time in your interview. ‘What makes you right for this job role' is an obvious one. Sometimes depending on the type of interview it's possible to predict almost everything that might be asked. The trick here is to not go overboard with rehearsing answers. If you're too specific in your preparation you might end up sounding unconvincing. It's fine to sound like you have the information memorized especially when answering a factual question but if you're asked an opinion on something, or asked about yourself, it's important that the answer sounds considered and pondered not practiced. This will sound more genuine and sincere.

Also be ready with examples of things you've done in past positions of employment to help customers or offer support to fellow workers or solve difficult problems. These questions will be asked if you're interview is a ‘competency based' one. The interviewer will want as specific examples as possible of these kinds of situations so consider this also. Depending on the kind of job you're applying for of course.

The classic advice is to practice in front of a mirror. It may sound a little ridiculous but it can really help plausibility and fluency in a job interview.
