Effectiveness Recruitment Tips

Tap into industry networks

This is the third in a series of 5 blogs which look at increasing recruitment effectiveness.  It focuses on the importance of creating relationships with connected industries as part of building your recruitment pipeline.  Almost without exception, taking a longer term view of recruitment leads to better recruitment.

The first step to effective recruitment related relationship building is to make a list of the top "movers-and-shakers" in your industry and connected industries, and develop relationships with as many of them as you can. The most effective recruitment processes are based on the exploitation of existing relationships with a large pool of qualified and experienced potential candidates. Experts in your area and related area are one of the best sources of talent spotting.  Frequently they have relationships with people that you may not be able to directly approach (for example, competitors). They are often informally consulted about potential opportunities in the industry and can equally put our feelers.

Building your profile and reputation in the broader as well as recruitment market is critical to recruitment. Make sure your company is distinctively represented at trade fairs, associations, and industry group meetings. Keep in regular contact with potential talent on the telephone and via email - a newsletter about your own company is not a bad idea, with an emphasis placed on growth and employment opportunities.  Keep in touch with ex-employees, not only might you want to recruit them back in the future but they can also be great ambassadors for your company.  If they speak highly of working with you then future recruits will be attracted to applying for jobs and seeking employment with you.
