Concentrate On The Positive In Recruitment Feedback

Concentrate On The Positive In Recruitment Feedback

This is our last tip in a short series on receiving feedback either as an external job applicant or internal candidate. The important thing is to really learn from the feedback a recruiter or employer gives you, the job hunter, after a recruitment interview. Whether you'll be actually working for them/get the job or not it's vital that you concentrate on the positive and embrace the recruitment advice offered.

The feedback session after a job interview is pointless if you don't learn from it. It'll benefit you no end if you concentrate on the positive and embrace the advice offered. Sometimes you'll get knowledge, information and tips that will be directly applicable to your current situation and if applied may be able to help affect the outcome of a current or ongoing recruitment process.

In other situations you'll get recruitment feedback that won't be useful or relevant until the next time you get a similar interview or apply to the same recruiter, which could be months or even years down the line. Both ways, you should concentrate on listening to the voice of experience, and take away as much knowledge, expertise and advice as you can. Don't be arrogant and try to blame the other person, and make sure you acknowledge the things that you may have done wrong or could improve.

There's no such thing as a perfect candidate and the recruiter or employer will have interviewed many people and probably done many feedback sessions.  This recruitment feedback session isn't personal even though it may feel that way if somebody points out a weakness in your interview skills or suitability for a job. Having the last laugh during a feedback session for a failed interview isn't worth the effort and you'll be much better off trying to take everything you can from it and change things for the future.
