CVs That Get Jobs

CVs That Get Jobs

Personality

Personality and connection through a CV can make the difference between a recruiter, employer or job agency short listing you for interview or not. Job selection and employee candidate selection can be arduous so don't overlook this vital need. Let's look at this in our seventh tip on how to put together a fantastic CV.

The role of a CV, of course, is to get you an interview. To help you apply for job vacancies and work vacancies. An employer or recruiter isn't looking to recruit a robot that simply ticks all the right experiential boxes. The information included does not automatically have to be cold, impersonal and clinical. An employer - remember, hopefully this is your future boss - will want to try and gleam a sense of what the candidate is like and what they'll be like to have around the workplace. Of course most of this will be conveyed at the interview but your CV is primarily the tool that will get you the interview so it can't or at least shouldn't really be overlooked.

When talking about roles with past employers or achievements consider what those things say about you as a person and try to express the facts in a way which is both concise but also warm. Talk about how your skills have developed and evolved where appropriate. In doing this you'll make your CV stand out from the candidates whose CV's are simply lists of places and dates.

The cover letter is, of course, a good place for you to demonstrate some of your key attributes and give a sense of the real you.  But do this through the descriptions you provide - do not be tempted to use pretty paper, fancy fonts and stuff like that.  Recruiters want to be able to quickly scan the information on the first round of shortlisting, going back to read it in more detail if you make the first cut.
