![]() CV Improvement AdviceThe Truth! In our tenth and final recruitment CV tip let's look at the need for honesty when putting together a great CV. We all want the jobs we apply for or we wouldn't bother filling out the application form but thinking about winning that new career at any cost just isn't worth the trouble. Recruiters, job agencies and potential employers see many CV's and lying on yours is a waste of time. If you're found out it'll be far worse in the long run and you might always wonder if it was the embellishment or yourself that got you the position in the first place. You might think a little white lie can't really harm your employment chances. How will anybody know or find out anyway and we all want to come across well when we present ourselves and our experience. The truth is you can't put yourself in the mind of a particular employer so you don't really know whether they're looking for years of solid proven experience or honesty about a willingness to learn. Because you may have a lack of experience in one area is no reason to lie. There's a clear line between presentation and fabrication. There is also no fine line between a white lie and a lie. It's just not worth the trouble it could get you into in the long run. Even the tiniest embellishment can catch you out. It'd be hard to forgive yourself if you squandered your chances by adding something false that the employer wouldn't have thought was essential anyway. Recruiters and prospective employers are increasingly carrying our referencing and verification as part of their recruitment process. If you are caught with a lie on you CV, no matter how minor, you will most probably lose your job (or not get it). Most employers correlate dishonesty on an application with dishonesty in the job. So even if you have been telling all your friends you got a 2.1 degree, if it really was a 2.2 put this on the CV.
