Be Realistic In Your Job Search

Have a realistic vision for the future

In this our eighth recruitment blog offering you tips to get the ideal job we look at how the world of employment has changed and the importance of having a realistic outlook concerning your long term goals. Recruitment and the world of employment have changed and it doesn't work the same way that it did thirty years ago. Jobs and careers for life in this day and age are rare and hard to find.

It used to be that when you left school or graduated from university that you chose where you wanted to work and that was that. A job for life as they say. Sadly, or not, the world of employment doesn't work the same way today that it did thirty years ago.

It's important to be realistic about the future and give these things careful consideration when thinking about your long term employment goals and hopes. You can't expect that you'll get this job then stay in it for life, and your prospective employer will be aware of this. If you're asked at an interview about where you see yourself in a few years - a very common interview question - don't panic about which answer indicates the most loyalty. Instead, give an honest answer in terms of what you think you can do for the employer, regardless of how long you anticipate the relationship lasting. Say that you hope for a long and happy relationship, but don't go overboard. Again, be honest.
